The snow is melting, birds are migrating and temps are starting to rise. We celebrated the first day of Spring on March 20th which means we can all come out of hibernation. It also means it’s time to do some serious spring cleaning. While you’ll be concentrating most of your cleaning efforts in IRL, don’t forget to do a little cleaning of your digital world.
Here are three ways you can shake off the winter blues off your digital life:
Keep your cell phone clean
First and foremost, you’ll want to actually clean your devices. Canned air does an excellent job of cleaning off keyboards. Don’t forget to clean the ports on all of your devices.
A recent article from Livescience.com stated that cell phones carry 10 times more bacteria than a toilet seat (cue gagging). This is why a Team Swappa member uses a UV sanitizing device called PhoneSoap which could also serve as a charger. Bonus!
Don’t forget to clean any accessories as well – cell phone covers, screen protectors, straps. All of these items may need a good disinfecting. If you have a plastic screen protector consider changing it out if it’s gotten scratched and worn. You may decide to opt for a glass screen protector such as Simple Snap, which boosts antibacterial glass.
Clean out your data storage
In a recent post, we recommended cleaning out your data storage to help you get more out of your 16GB iPhone. This may be a great time to go through your apps and delete your unused or underused apps. If you haven’t used an app in a month or more, it may just be a distraction, clogging up your screen and blocking your awesome screen saver. Be sure to uninstall the device and go into your device settings and clean out the cached data under storage.
Dispose of old technology
While you’re doing the general spring time overhaul, consider disposing of your old technology. If you’re like most people, you probably have a few orphaned cell phone chargers, dead batteries, and old tech lying around in a drawer. You’ll want to find a way to dispose of that in a way that’s kind to the environment. Some of the big box office supplies stores have options
to dispose of old technology in a low or no cost way. You’ll want to check the Swappa marketplace first to make sure your devices don’t have any value. Someone may be looking for your old newish technology so make sure you can’t sell it before you decide to trash it.
Since Spring is a time of renewal, why don’t you opt for an upgrade to your old phone. You can get a newish flagship phone from the Swappa Store for substantially less than if you purchased it new. Plus, you’ll be contract free which means you can take the phone to the carrier of your choice. Talk about a breath of fresh air.
