You may not know this but Swappa is a little different than all the other used tech marketplaces out there. When a buyer purchases a listing on Swappa a private sale page is created to facilitate communication between the seller, buyer, and Swappa staff. This sale page is unique to the transaction and is private so the public won’t be able to see your purchase details or communication. It’s only visible to the buyer, seller, and Swappa staff.
You can think of the Sale Page as an information and communication hub for the transaction. You’ll find a breakdown of the numbers, next steps, shipment tracking, payments, photos, and a comment section. If you have a question or there is an issue related to the transaction, the sale page should be your first stop in getting the question answered or the problem resolved.
The comment section is where Swappa stands apart. If you purchase on a marketplace like Amazon or eBay, the order details and communication with the other party in the transaction are separated. You can view the transaction details and send a message to the other party but the communication can be disjointed. On Swappa, the sale page has everything you need after the sale including a communication thread that shows all messages between each party.
Let’s briefly walk through each section of the sale page with some screenshots for visual reference. Note: the sale page may look a little different depending on whether you’re the buyer or the seller.
Sale Summary
The sale summary has a breakdown of the numbers for the sale. It includes the unique sale page code that you can use to identify the transaction or when contacting Swappa staff. The date of the sale is included along with the current status of the sale. In the example screenshot, the sale was made on March 12, 2024, is active, and the sale code is SYCT94156.
Below the basic transaction information is the financial portion of the summary. It includes an itemized breakdown of the cost of the purchase. The bolded Order Total is the final price the buyer paid. The seller’s view of this section will also include the Swappa sale fee.
Profile Overview
The two panels next to the Sale Summary have information about the seller and buyer. It includes a link to their profile page along with their location, member since date, seller ratings, and listing history.
Please note: only sellers on Swappa receive ratings. Buyers do not receive a rating from sellers when they purchase a listing.
Next Steps
This section will change depending on the status of the sale and will look different for the seller and buyer. The next steps should tell you what to expect or do next. In this screenshot, we’re the buyer and we’re waiting for the device to be delivered.
Once it’s delivered and we inspect the device using the checklist, we can complete the sale and leave the seller a rating. This is the rating window that opens when you complete a sale as a buyer.
Sale Items
The sale items section allows you to download an invoice in PDF format and displays the device purchased along with a link to the listing.
Shipping
This section shows the shipment tracking for the order. After shipping, the seller will upload the tracking information to the shipping section of the sale page. The buyer can then use the tracking number to monitor the package status. In the case of a return to the seller, the buyer can also upload tracking information.
Next to the tracking section is the buyer’s shipping address. This is the address the buyer provided on the checkout page.
Payments
A simple breakdown of the payment and reference numbers along with the payment status.
Pictures
The photo section of the sale page can be utilized several different ways and is there to help facilitate communication. Sellers can upload a photo of the box or tracking receipt from the postal carrier. In the case of a condition problem, buyers can use this section to upload photos of the device they received showing any unexpected cosmetic issues. Any photos you upload to the sale page are only visible to the buyer, seller, and Swappa staff.
Comments
The comments section is arguably the most important section of the sales page, especially if there is a problem that needs to be resolved. When there’s a problem, we expect all parties to remain professional. Toward that end, we have established an appropriate comment policy. Comments that are left on this section of the sale page are emailed to the other party. Swappa expects buyers and sellers to respond to comments within 24 hours.
As a buyer, if you have a question for the seller or have an issue with your purchase, the first thing you should do is reach out to the seller by leaving a comment on the sale page. If the seller doesn’t respond, you have the option to notify staff by using the ‘I need help (alerts Swappa Staff)’ checkbox.
As a seller, you can update your buyers with information about their shipment and communicate with them about any issues that may arise. Life happens and if there’s any kind of delay to shipping your buyer’s order, it’s always best to reach out to them by leaving a comment on the sale page.
