To buy or sell on Swappa, you’ll need an account. Don’t worry, opening a Swappa account won’t cost you anything. It takes just a minute to get started and you’ll have access to a marketplace full of thousands of gently used devices and a community that’s passionate about tech.
There is no monthly fee or one-time charge to use the Swappa marketplace. All you need to do is fill out a simple form and confirm your account through your email.
Selling Accounts on Swappa
Creating a listing on Swappa is always free. It won’t cost you anything to create a listing. You only pay a small fee to Swappa when your listing sells.

There are three types of sellers on Swappa
- Individual Seller
- Power Seller
- Enterprise Seller
Unless you have a registered business that sells phones, tablets, laptops, or other devices on Swappa in significant volume, you are most likely an individual seller.
Individual sellers can buy and sell on Swappa just like a business but they don’t have access to some of the more powerful features when it comes to creating listings.
Power sellers are registered businesses that repair, refurbish, or resell devices. They have access to tools like Incoming Inventory that speed up the listing creation process for batches of devices. Power sellers are allowed to use their profile code in listing verification photos rather than the unique listing code.
Enterprise sellers have all the benefits of a Power seller but they are able to create listings with multiple quantities. An enterprise seller lists and sells a significant number of devices on Swappa every month and is held to a very high customer satisfaction standard.

Seller Ratings – Unlike some other marketplaces, only sellers receive ratings on Swappa. So, just because a user does not have any ratings doesn’t mean they aren’t an experienced Swappa user. We have many buyers who have purchased hundreds and even thousands of devices but have never sold a single item. If you’re a new seller, don’t be worried if your buyer doesn’t have any reviews tied to their profile. They may not have sold anything on Swappa before so they wont have any ratings.
Anatomy of a Swappa Profile
How is a Swappa Profile different than a Swappa Account? They are often used synonymously so for this article, a Swappa account can be considered to be the parent entity of a profile. The profile is what is shown to other users on Swappa or the external representation of a Swappa account. You can change your profile name and image. Your profile is what is displayed to other users on Swappa.

Register to Create Your Swappa Account
You’ll need a Swappa account to buy and sell on Swappa. Register for an account to get started.
After you complete the registration form, you’ll receive an email with an account confirmation link. Click the ‘Verify Your Email’ link and your Swappa account will be activated and ready to buy or sell on the safest marketplace for used tech.
Manage Your Swappa Account
To access your Swappa account (from a desktop web browser), click the menu button or the profile icon at the top of the Swappa homepage. You’ll then select My Swappa from the menu that opens.

You can think of My Swappa as a hub for your activity on Swappa. You’ll find links to other important Swappa account-related pages as well as a quick recap of your Active Listings, Active Sales, and Purchases.

This inventory page lets you control and edit your existing listings. You can search and filter your listings as well as manipulate your listings through editing or uploading photos.
If you have devices to list, you can start the listing process from the My Listings page by clicking the blue ‘New Listing’ button.
My Sales – https://swappa.com/my/swappa/sales
This page is a tabular view of your sales including the date sold and a link to the sale page.
My Purchases – https://swappa.com/my/swappa/purchases
These are the listings you’ve purchased using your Swappa account. You can click on the product link to view the sale page. You can also find the tracking information for your purchase on My Purchases.

This page is where you can link your PayPal account to Swappa. Sellers on Swappa must link their PayPal account to create listings and receive payments for sales. You will need to enter a one-time-password that is sent to your email to access this page.

If you use ShipStation to ship packages, you can use the Swappa integration to tie into your ShipStation account.
Frequently Asked Questions
I forgot my password. How can I recover my Swappa account?
You can use the Recover Password page to reset your password and recover your Swappa account. If you no longer have access to the email tied to your Swappa account, please contact our help desk for a manual email adjustment.
Can I have more than one Swappa account?
No, Swappa only allows one account per user. If you have multiple family members in your household that use Swappa, you can each have a Swappa account. If you accidentally open more than one Swappa account, staff may deactivate duplicate accounts and direct you back to the account with a history of sales/feedback. However, you can choose to use a newly created account assuming you do not have any detrimental issues tied to your older account.
Do I have to have a PayPal account to sell on Swappa?
Yes, Swappa uses PayPal to process transactions and you will need to tie your PayPal account to your Swappa account before you can list devices on Swappa. Read more about why Swappa uses PayPal to process transactions.
Why was a hold placed on my Swappa account?
New sellers, or sellers with an outstanding issue on a previous sale that hasn’t been addressed, may see an account hold.
- New sellers: Restrictions can be lifted once one of their listings has been successfully completed. Swappa considers a listing to be successfully completed when it has been purchased, shipped, and shows as delivered to the buyer.
- Existing sellers: Restrictions can be lifted once the outstanding issue has been fully resolved. Swappa considers an issue to be fully resolved when the buyer and seller have worked through all outstanding issues.
Do I need a PayPal account to buy on Swappa?
No, you do not need a PayPal account to buy from Swappa. You can use a debit or credit card during the checkout process through either PayPal or Stripe. Look for listings with the credit card icon or use the ‘Accepts Stripe’ filter.
How can I upload or change my Swappa Profile picture?
You can update your Swappa profile picture from the My Profile page. We recommend using a square photo or cropping the image to a square format.
