The fake site calling itself Swappa España, aka swappa.es, is a scam and in no way associated with Swappa.
Swappa’s support team never rests. When they’re not answering questions and helping users in our marketplace, they’re actively stopping fraud and would-be scammers from making a home in our marketplace.
Unfortunately, this hasn’t stopped the internet scammers from coming up with new ways to steal your money. When fraudsters find out they can’t use our marketplace to scam people, they often try their luck at stealing Swappa’s stellar reputation for safety outside our marketplace.
Is Swappa España real? NO
Not too long ago we told you about fake Swappa profiles popping up on yard sale apps like Letgo, but we’ve recently learned that scammers are now using Swappa’s name and logo to create fake websites in other countries.
Swappa.es — aka “Swappa España” — is the newest fraud attempt that masks itself as a legitimate website in hopes of scamming buyers with promises of discounted PS5s and other consumer devices.
Let us be clear: Swappa.es is not legit and is 100% a scam.
Swappa is uniquely a US-based marketplace and does not exist anywhere outside the United States. This means Swappa does not exist in any capacity outside of Swappa.com.
Alas, our support team has already received a handful of reports from unlucky users who were conned out of their money. Again, Swappa is in no way affiliated with Swappa.es and while we can scream it from the rooftops, bargain hunters should exercise the utmost caution when looking for deals on discounted tech.
The old saying goes, if it’s too good to be true — it usually is.
What does this mean to you? Well, should you ever come across an account on OfferUp or Facebook Marketplace claiming to be a Swappa employee or representative — it’s 100% a scam. Additionally, any website purporting itself to be an extension of Swappa.com is fraudulent and should be reported as such.
The internet can be a scary place and there are no shortage of scammers out there trying to steal your money. This is precisely why Swappa was created in the first place, and why we work so hard at keeping our marketplace the safest place to buy and sell used tech.
