Purchasing a newly released smartphone can be fun and even exciting. However, it can also be expensive. Apple recently announced the iPhone 12 lineup, which consists of the iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and the 12 Pro Max. The current Apple trade-in value for an iPhone Xr is $250. Recent Swappa sales for a good condition 128GB iPhone Xr are over $400. Sure, you’ll pay a bit to ship the phone, and there are also PayPal fees, but when all is said and done, the amount you’ll net by selling your old iPhone will be higher than what Apple will give you for a trade-in.
Once the iPhone Xr is sold, and the iPhone 12 Pro is purchased, I will likely pay just $700 for a phone that has an MSRP of $1,099. If I were to trade-in with Apple, that $1,099 phone would be closer to $850.
