Do I need to factory reset my device before trading it in?
Yes. Reset and sign out of every account before you ship. It protects your personal data, and it keeps your payout on track because most Swappa Trade-In partners will not pay full value on a device that is still locked to an account.
Before you box it up:
- Back up anything you want to keep. Photos, contacts, app data.
- Sign out of iCloud and disable Find My iPhone on Apple devices. An active activation lock can void the offer.
- Sign out of your Google and Samsung accounts on Android devices to clear Factory Reset Protection.
- Factory reset the device from its settings menu.
- Remove SIM cards and SD cards. Keep them.
The partner wipes and refurbishes or recycles the device after inspection, but resetting yourself is the only way to be sure your data never leaves your hands.
