We often get questions related to shipping. Our “Checklist for Shipping a Phone or Tablet” blog post applies to many of the items sold on Swappa. We also have several other blog posts that outline the best practices for shipping game consoles, laptops, desktop computers, and more.
But as Swappa expands – so does the size of the items being shipped. And, one item that has recently been added to Swappa’s approved selling list is large. In fact, it is so large that our other shipping guides aren’t going to help. So here in this post, we’ll outline the basics of how to ship a Peloton exercise bike.

How much will it cost to ship my Peloton?
The first and most important items to consider when shipping a Peloton bike is its size and weight.
Due to the size and weight of the Peloton, regular shipping options such as USPS and UPS are not going to work. Instead, you’ll need to prep the bike, pack the bike, and arrange to ship the bike using a specialty shipping service – and all of this should be done before listing your Peloton for sale.
Tip: On Swappa, buyers get free standard shipping. This means that sellers need to factor in the cost of shipping before they list an item for sale. With something small, such as a smartphone, this may not be quite as important – but due to the size and weight of the Peloton – you’ll want to get an estimate for shipping before you list it for sale. A good way to get a fair estimate is to use a location that is the furthest away from where you will be shipping from, and then base the shipping cost on that number.
Taking care of the prep work before listing your Peloton for sale will help you avoid any unwelcome surprises in terms of shipping costs. It will also help to ensure a smooth transaction for your buyer. After all, nobody wants to buy something, only to have the seller cancel the sale because they discovered it was too hard or too expensive to ship the item.
Ultimately, the shipping costs will vary based on several factors such as the method of shipping, the distance the item needs to travel, the speed you want it to arrive with your buyer, and whether you need to buy any packing materials.
Prepare and pack your Peloton for sale
Prepare your Peloton for shipping
Some of the necessary prep work includes locating the serial number and performing a factory reset. Your Peloton has a serial number for the bike and another for the touchscreen, both of which can be found in two places.
You can locate the serial number for the bike:
- On a sticker located by the front feet
- On a sticker located by the front flywheel
You can locate the serial number for the touchscreen:
- On a sticker located on the bottom back of the touchscreen
- In the system settings. Tap the 3-dot icon in the lower right corner of the display and navigate to Device Settings -> About Tablet -> Status
Your Peloton can be factory reset by navigating to Settings -> System -> Factory Reset.
Pack your Peloton for shipping
Now that you’ve located the serial numbers and performed a factory reset – you can move on to packing your Peloton for shipping. The packing process begins with removing some items from the bike. Specifically, you will need to remove the touchscreen, pedals, sweat guard, water bottle holder, and weight holders. Peloton also recommends lowering the handlebars and seat post to the lowest possible position and making sure all of the adjustment levers are fully tightened.

When possible, it is best to use the original shipping materials. But quite often the original boxes and packing materials aren’t saved, so in that case – our recommendation is to find suitable shipping materials that are as close to the original shipping materials as possible. Or alternatively, you may also consider using a professional packing service.
How to ship your Peloton exercise bike
As noted earlier in this post – due to the size and weight of the Peloton, regular shipping options are not going to work. For reference, the Peloton weighs 135 or 140 pounds, depending on the model. Instead, you’ll need to look for specialty shipping services, such as what is available with uShip and FedEx LTL.
Swappa does not have any affiliation with uShip or FedEx LTL, but both services provide multiple options for shipping larger and heavier items, such as Peloton exercise bikes – including the option to get free estimates, which goes back to our earlier tip – ideally, you should get a shipping estimate before you list your Peloton for sale on Swappa to avoid any unwelcome surprises. Additionally, while local meetups are generally not recommended on Swappa, they are permitted for Peloton sales.
A few additional tips to keep in mind when selling your Peloton
