Laptop was shipped in an empty shipping box without any packing peanuts, and had probably jostled around, as the laptop's packaging had opened and the power corder was dangling out of it.
Laptop was non functional on arrival. I had to spend several hours troubleshooting the MacOS installation, eventually with Apple tech support, before the device was usable.
Now the laptop seems to be working fine.
