Listing approved. Thanks for using Swappa.
Hello, since it’s an unopened box would I still still get the manufacturer warranty?
I’m surprised you didn’t get any offers yet.
Thanks
Hi Judith, thanks for your interest. Yes, it's sealed box so whatever the original warranty is that comes with Pixel phones.
Hi, Harold, that’s what I thought, but I actually did some research and this is what I found(and it’s not the only one) : “The original manufacturer warranty for a Google Pixel phone is not transferable, even if it’s resold unopened and unregistered” ; “When a Google phone is resold on Swappa, the manufacturer warranty may or may not be transferable, and the seller is responsible for stating in the listing”. Unfortunately I found the same if I buy on eBay. This doesn’t make sense to me,because I purchased new unopened other electronic products and there was no problem. Do you know about this? Maybe you can provide me with a receipt? But it depends when you bought it. Basically reselling a Pixel phone, even if unopened or unregistered voids the original warranty for the new buyer. I need proof of purchase and that would be in the name of the original buyer. This is very disappointing, I hope it’s not true. Maybe it’s just Google? What can you tell me? Thanks
Hi Judith,
I can't speak for all the specifics, but I can share my recent experience with my son's Pixel 6a. I entered a support ticket using IMEI and my son's email. They were able to download the logs from the phone and see the battery issue, and eventually offered to replace his phone that had a bulging battery, even though it was years past warranty. So I'm thinking they can easily see that you are the first and only person to log into this new phone. I bought this from T-Mobile and not from Google store, so Google would have no record of my name and thus no reason to not treat you as the original owner. Hope that helps.
Thank you Harold, that’s good news you had a great experience with your son’s phone. Like I said, I found so many postings that if you buy a brand new phone in factory sealed box from a reseller, the 12 months warranty is not honored. I found that suspicious so I managed to contact Google and I was told that’s incorrect. But he said in order to be absolutely sure of the warranty status, ask the seller for the S/N,it’s on a sticker that’s outside on the box. I’m not sure that a seller will provide me with that number and actually I have a Pixel 6 that I want to upgrade, I still have the box,but the S/N is not on there, so I don’t understand. Anyway, I think it will be fine. I actually wanted to tell you I would buy your phone, that’s the color I want, but we decided (I have 2 other people on the plan) to get unlocked ones, because we’re not sure we’ll stay with T-Mobile. I was actually with Sprint since 1997,but since T-Mobile bought them, I don’t like a lot of things. I’m sorry! Thanks
HI Judith, glad you got clarity from Google support. FYI, the phones are auto-unlocked by T-Mobile after 40 days on their network, so you could use this one anywhere after then if you decide to switch carriers.
Ok, but I checked and to get unlocked after 40 days, the phone needs to be purchased from them. I know you did buy it from T-mobile, but I didn't and I'm pretty sure they will check that.
I am just curious, why are you selling the phone, you changed companies?
Seriously, Howard, if I buy the phone from you and I register it, run the Serial Number will it show that it was purchased at T-mobile because you did? If so then it's ok, like I said to be unlocked after 40 days it needs to be purchased from them. Can you just tell me how long ago you bought it?
Hi Judith,
Yes the phone was purchased from T-Mobile during a promo in December. I was going to give it as a gift to my kids, but changed my mind, so it's been sealed since then.
Once you put in your sim card, the phone will show on your T-Mobile account and then you can permanently unlock after 40 days of usage.
Hi Harold, that's all great, but I'm afraid the problem is still with the warranty. Contrary to what Google told me the warranty starts when it was first purchased. I know this because I'm also looking for Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL for my daughter and her husband. I found a brand new Pro XL on ebay for a good price and she sent me the serial number. There is a Warranty verifier on Google help website, when I entered the serial number it showed there is 10 months warranty left, she bought it on April 19,2025. That's not that bad but if you bought it in December there is 6 months left. You can check it yourself if you find the serial number. I don't know why is this way. The warranty should start when the box is opened and the phone is registered. It's not right. I know the price is lower, 10 months I would accept, but 6 months? Not good.
I understand your concern about warranty, and unfortunately there's nothing I can do to change Google's policy. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Good luck on your phone search.
