Howdy! I actually live in Tucson, and am looking for one of the new mac minis like yours … not going for as many bells and whistles, but they are nice for things hopefully not getting outmoded so quick with music production. Anyhow, does the hub underneath have any extra thunderbolt, USB etc ports, or is it just the extra ssd enclosure? I have a couple TB 4 ssd drives i use already for project and sample files, but expansion port docs are useful, so I am figuring if it would be handy or not. Thanks a bunch!
Hey there Joel, the included raycue Mac mini dock isn't thunderbolt, but it's advertised transfer speeds are 40gbps. I myself was getting over 3,000mbps with a 4TB ORICO PCIe m.2 SSD . On the back of the dock has a 3.5mm headphone jack, X2 USB-A ports and the USB-C host port that connects to the Mac mini itself. If you have further questions, let me know.
Oh great — thanks paul! Even a couple old school ISB ports do come in handy. Last question, on chance, do you do music production with it, and if so, know if pro tools etc is compatible yet with it’s operating system? I’ll do some research / digging, but need to figure out if I’ll have to update a bunch of software to transfer over and not disrupt recording sessions. Thanks again for all the info!
Hey again Joel, I actually did do music production but I'm an Ableton Live user. I did however have the pro tools (intro) version installed. And I did use it for a bit. It's seemed to run pretty good. From research that I have done, you shouldn't have any issues with it. And with these specs, it would last you for quite a while. But of course, do whatever research you need to be sure.
Great, thanks Paul! I’ve been researching a bunch and it seems like most of my stuff will transfer properly
