Why does it have a tempered glass screen protector if the phone hasn't been used?

I thought I was going to use the phone when I got the replacement and I had already pre-purchased a cover and the tempered glass screen protector. Instead I decided to wait and get the new Pixel 2 XL. So I installed it. it's still brand new and just sitting there without being used.
