The 1st generation iPad Air was released in November 2013, which is the same time the 4th generation iPad was released. The 1st generation iPad Air launched with iOS 7 and is powered by the Apple A7 chip, which was a step up from the Apple A6X chip that was powering the 4th generation iPad.
