Unlocked iPhone X Compatibility Guide

January 26, 2022 • By Will Verduzco in iPhone
Apple iPhone X, carrier compatibility guide, unlocked

Getting a used iPhone X is a great way to save money on a modern iPhone. And buying an unlocked iPhone X helps make sure that your iPhone will work with your wireless network — but you’ll still need to do your homework if you want to guarantee 100% compatibility. You can do this by finding out which unlocked iPhone X model number supports your carrier’s specific wireless bands.

The unlocked iPhone X comes in two US carrier models: A1865 and A1901. There is also the A1902 model, but it is intended for Japanese carriers, so we aren’t including it in this article.

Which unlocked iPhone X should I buy for my carrier network? Keep reading to learn about the model differences, carrier compatibility, and help you find the right unlocked iPhone X for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or your favorite MVNO. So what’s the difference between the iPhone X A1865 vs A1901? Keep reading to find out

Read More: This is part of our Unlocked iPhone Carrier Compatibility Guide, covering everything you need to know when buying an unlocked iPhone. Visit the iPhone X Buyer’s Guide to learn more about the iPhone X.

iPhone X model A1865 Carrier Compatibility

The iPhone X A1865 is the GSM+CDMA model and works on pretty much any US carrier, including CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint. A1865 models have CDMA support, which Verizon and Sprint use for 3G connectivity, and it also works on their 4G LTE networks.

The A1865 is sold by Apple as the SIM-free model and is typically used by Apple for replacement devices.

iPhone X model A1901 Carrier Compatibility

The iPhone X A1901 is the GSM version, sold as the carrier model for AT&T and T-Mobile, and doesn’t fully support CDMA networks. That means the A1901 will not support Verizon’s or Sprint’s 3G CDMA networks, so if you want a phone that works on all four carriers, you need to get the A1865 model.
