Samsung Galaxy S22 model numbers
Samsung announced the Galaxy S22 lineup in February 2022. The lineup is made up of three models, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and the Galaxy Note-like, Galaxy S22 Ultra. The base model number for the Galaxy S22 lineup is SM-S90x.
The Galaxy S22 is the SM-S901, the Galaxy S22 Plus is the SM-S906, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the SM-S908. Each of the three devices has different variants, which break down as follows:
- Samsung Galaxy S22: SM-S901U, SM-S901U1, SM-S901B, SM-S901B/DS, SM-S901W, SM-S901N, SM-S9010, SM-S901E
- Samsung Galaxy S22+: SM-S906U, SM-S906U1, SM-S906B, SM-S906B/DS, SM-S906W, SM-S906N, SM-S9060, SM-S906E
- Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: SM-S908U, SM-S908U1, SM-S908B, SM-S908B/DS, SM-S908W, SM-S908N, SM-S9080, SM-S908E
Three models, which each have eight variants, for a total of 24 different models in the overall Galaxy S22 lineup. While this may sound confusing, the different variants are based on the market.
If you are planning to buy a gently used Galaxy S22, S22+, or S22 Ultra for use in the United States, you only need to worry about the “U” or the “U1” version.
The “U” signifies the Carrier version for the US market, and the “U1” signifies the Factory Unlocked version for the US market. The carrier versions of smartphones are generally intended for use with one specific carrier, whereas the factory unlocked versions are intended for use with different carriers.
Otherwise, the “B” and “B/DS” are international versions, the “W” is for Canada, the “N” is for Korea, the “0” is for China, and the “E” is for Asia and Africa.

The regular Galaxy S22 models include the SM-S901U (carrier version) and the SM-S901U1 (factory unlocked version). If you use Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, and have plans to stick with your current carrier, the Galaxy S22 SM-S901U is the model to consider. Alternatively, if you are thinking about switching carriers, or just want the freedom to switch carriers (without having to buy a new phone), the Galaxy S22 SM-S901U1 is the model to consider.

The model number for the Galaxy S22+ is SM-S906, which differs slightly from the Galaxy S22. However, the same rules apply in that the key models to consider for use with a US-based wireless carrier is the “U” or the “U1” – specifically for the Galaxy S22+, the SM-S906U, or SM-S906U1.
If you are using Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, and have no plans or desires to switch carriers, go with the SM-S906U. If you want the flexibility to switch carriers without having to buy a new phone, go with the SM-S906U1.
