I have this on my spare cell phone. I can make cell phone calls either when near or away from my WiFi. AND THE COST IS ZERO!
I've had very good luck, including some very long phone calls to various companies.
The free plan has NO data.,, but you can text and make and receive telephone calls for free.
Two minor downsides... when you complete a call, the app shows an advertisement. But you can change apps or close the app. And second, you are not guaranteed to keep the same phone number... but as long as you make a call or send a text every couple of days, they won't change it.

Many seniors ONLY have a cell phone for emergencies. This is PERFECT for them. No cost. Really, it is free. And if you get sick while on the road, you can call your family (or 911) for help. No need to pay a cell phone provider's exorbitant monthly fee.

Can't beat the FREE plan...but now you do have to buy a $5 sim card. They recently (6/15/21) ended the ability to re-activate old Sprint phones with an existing Sprint SIM, but otherwise the cellphone and text works just fine. A great way to have an extra wireless cellphone line without paying a monthly bill (unless you want a data plan..that is $20 for 2gb). They also let you port in or out your number at no charge.
