Can you check if this device is OEM unlocked? Go to Settings > About phone and quickly tap the Build number seven times to enable Developer options, then look for "OEM unlocking" in Settings > System > Developer options to determine if the switch can be turned ON—meaning the phone is ready—or if it is greyed out, indicating the phone is likely carrier-locked and cannot be unlocked.
