Hello there! Could you tell me about the cycle count and battery health?

Oct 17, 2025 - 09:30 AM

The cycle count is 39, but as I understand it the number that comes up in the battery report is actually the number of times the power has been turned off and on. Not sure how to show the actual battery cycle count.

The battery health is at approx. 96%. The design capacity is 51480 mWh. While my full charge capacity is 49460 mWh, I only charge up to 80%. That is about 96% of design capacity, which is how I arrived at that figure. If I charged to 100% always, I would guess the health would be 100%.

Thank you for the prompt and the kind reply.

Could you also tell me what the SoT is like? I have heard that SD X Plus has lower battery life than SDX Elite, so asking.

I am also assuming that you used the powercfg /batteryreport command at the command prompt for the cycle count.

I am sure including a screenshot of the HTML file will also help other buyers considering the device.

Thank you!

PS: I am also assuming that the unit has a physical SIM card slot under the SSD door under the hinge. Did you try 5G? If you did, how easy was it to connect, and what were the speeds like?

Oct 17, 2025 - 12:58 PM

I've posted new photos with screen caps of the battery report run this morning.

As far as 5G goes, I don't use SIM cards. In my case, I set up an e-SIM with my provider (T-Mobile). I was able to download and activate it in less than 3 minutes with no headaches. Then I set up to auto switch between WiFi and 5G when a signal was stronger.

There is a SIM card slot in the SSD compartment. You can use either an e-SIM or real SIM - or put both on the Surface. Only one can be active at a time, though, so if 2 SIMs are present, you have to manually switch between the SIMs to use one or the other.

The connection speed ran about 250 mbs up/down except when I was in the middle of downtown Houston - the speed went down to somewhere between 175-200 mbs, but that was expected behavior.

The SP11 does not have UWB like most phones and newer tablets. You aren't going to see crazy speeds like 750 mbs like I see on my phone. But the connection was rock solid and even on 5G I got around 6.5 hours of battery life. So no complaints.

Lastly, the Plus squeezes maybe 30 more minutes of battery life, give or take time based on what you are doing. I write code, use a fair amount of AI for other things, email and office stuff, and when done with work, I may watch YouTube videos or my own stuff through VLC.

On average, using WiFi as much as possible (on a normal day, 100%), I routinely get about 8.5 hours. And that's with power mode set to Performance and dynamic stuff (like screen brightness) turned off. Enough to get me through the day.

Not so lastly...

In answer to the unasked question, I have found 16GB to be on the slow side when dealing with the size of datasets I work with. I am willing to ditch 5G in favor of 64GB and using my phone as a hotspot.
