Hello. A couple questions, what android version is on the phone? I need a rootable phone. And also are there any scratches on the display? I can't tell from the pics.
Most US based Galaxy phones usually are not rootable. Galaxy devices usually need an exploit of some kind to root. Last I heard with Note 8's, there was a root exploit via mixing firmwares but it resulted in a high number of hard bricked devices that couldn't be restored even if you did each step 100% correctly. This is one device I would not try rooting.
If you want/need a rootable phone, just get a factory unlocked Google Pixel. That's your safest bet.
I currently have the note 8 and have rooted it. My issue is I have dropped this phone and the screen is all cracked. It is cheaper to purchase a used compatible note 8 vs getting it fixed last I checked. I root all my phones and know what I'm doing with it. Also I would get the pixel, but the issue is they don't have stylus' and besides rooting that's a deal breaker for me.
I worked with the guy for the root process of the Galaxy S5, he was also the main founder of the exploit to root the Note 8. He took his tutorial down on XDA because there were so many har bricks on the devices even if the steps were followed perfectly. Generally trust him when he says that there was a problem. It was mostly note 8 that are already updated to the most recent update from Samsung, which this one is as up-to-date as possible
Just going off of what I've read basically. It's been a long time since I've talked to him, maybe I'll find a way to message him again and see if I can get more details. Since his tutorial is completely taken down, there isn't another post with the info in it to try the rooting process. I wouldn't even want to try it if that hard brick chances so high according to him. So I cannot tell you if this device is rootable or not, despite there being a root method for the Note 8
Just got into office, Android version 9 with the december 1, 2020 security patch. most up to date it can be as of this moment. There's no safe root method for this device, so I'd rather not risk it myself
