We do not have WiFi at the moment. We watch tv using phone hotspot. Living in a rural area, WiFi is sooo expensive! Is there ways to use all or most functions somehow? No home phone either.

This unit requires a broadband internet connection. All video is stored in the cloud, nothing is stored locally. Given your setup, this would not be a good fit for you.
