Is this still supported by google?

I was about to make an offer however, just read that as of 25 Feb 2020 google pushed an update that no longer allows any new users to sync the glasses with their gmail account. :( Were you able to sync this with yours or a test account to debunk this?

I formatted and packaged the device when I put it up for sale and had not tried to use it for a while prior.

I just read the announcement. Yes it seems like Google support for the Glass (YouTube, Gmail, Hangouts) soon stop.
Personally, I never used it for any of those.
However, there is an update that allows continued use of the Glass.

The statement I read says:
installing this update means you’ll still be able to use the device paired to your phone, take photos and videos with Glass, and use sideloaded apps as normal.
However, from February 25, 2020, Mirror apps, like Gmail, YouTube and Hangouts, will no longer work.

What can it really do now without access to Google apps?

I am on the fence in the sense that if it is completely not usable to pair to my phone or Google account and sideload apps it is doubtful I can take it back. Being dissapointed in the product wouldn't count because I read what all it can do but now that it's not supported what if its bricked

Despite the fact that it's not longer connected to your google account, it doesn't take away from what the device does.
Granted the seamless integration with Gmail etc has it's benefits, but I guess it all depends on how you would normally forsee yourself using the product.
Is your bluetooth enabled headphone/headset or camera useless because it's not directly connected to your Gmail account?
Generally the answer is no.
Personally, side-loading apps isn't a challenge for me.
I think it's a great benefit, but I can't speak for everyone.
And if you're worried about bricking the device, I guess it's a matter of technical proficiency.

I hope this helps.
However, if you're not sure, I wouldn't recommend buying the device.
Sleep on it a little, perhaps.
