Hi Rich. Can you enlighten me as to how a Verizon XS Max becomes unlocked? Does it have to deal with the length of service w/Verizon?

Also, what is the battery capacity of your phone?

Hi Drew, Verizon unlike AT&T and others doesn’t lock your SIM when you leave their service. Therefore after you have purchased the phone and provisioned it thru Verizon you’re free to use it wherever you like so long as it’s CDMA or GSM compatible.

Also, If you buy your iPhone Xs or iPhone Xs Max through Verizon, that device should be SIM unlocked at the time of purchase... no need to have it any length of time with the carrier.

Thank you for your prompt reply and thorough explanation. The reason I asked is that it appears that very few Verizon Xs Max phones are advertised as unlocked which I would think is an attribute when selling. After nearly paying 1k for a phone it would be rather disappointing not be able to take it to another carrier if one so chooses.

You're welcome, and perhaps the reason for some folks not advertising that these phones are "unlocked" is that very few people know this little gem of a fact. There was a time from the iPhone 6 through the 10 that you perhaps couldn't do the sim swap, but not too many folks know that you can swap the sim on these phones and use it with another carrier. I try to stay up to date on these phones since I have had them for years.
