Surface Book 2 15" 512gb + Surface Pen

I am selling my Surface Book 2 that I've used for college programming. It has manufacturer's warranty until September 15, and I am including the charger and surface pen (the one with the clip). Box and manuals not included.

Will be happy to answer any questions or consider offers upon request. If you want to buy it and are in the NYC area, I would be open to meeting up in person.

Hello, I have a few questions I'll ask at once to save time. Are you including the Surface Pen you have pictured? Would you say it's about a year of use from your college programming?
Lastly of course is pricing, what is the very best you can do as the last 512gb SB2 just sold on here yesterday at $1625.

That would be ideal in my opinion if you were able to do that. I'm not sure you probably would have to post the new serial number or photos of course for verification. If we can agree on a price, that's the way I'd like to go. Even though a year of use isn't terrible, if a referb or new is possible with $50 that's a good deal. I have $1,800 in my mind that I can do now giving what has just sold on here and what's available. Just let me know and we'll go from there. Thank you!

Hi Dustin, before we talk more about exact pricing, would you be comfortable sharing the zip code of where I would have to send the device to, and if you'd be willing to give different offers depending on if the replacement is refurb or new?

- Jun 29, 2019 - 03:49 PM

Sure, it would be going to 43830. If you were to manage a new replacement I would up my offer $50 to pay for that exchange.

Would it be possible for you to make an offer a little closer to the listing price? My reasoning is that in addition to the $50 deductible and Swappa + shipping fees, the closest Microsoft store is a bit out of the way since it is in Manhattan and I am in the lower side of Brooklyn. Regarding the exchange if we do decide on a final price, would you want me to turn the laptop on to check the software after inspecting for any physical imperfections? Sort of on an unrelated note, I can also include a hardshell case that I got to protect the device from scratches when in tablet mode since I won't have a use for it afterwards (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079SVPVN4).

Hi, I think the best I can do is $1,825 referb and $1,875 new. It's a good deal but the others for up to $300 cheaper right now are tempting and I can upgrade the SSD's at any time. Also yes feel free to inspect if it's a referb. The hard shell looks pretty cool, I don't know that I would use it but it would be a cool accessory. If we're able to agree here and you could swap things out to ship Monday that would be great. Alternatively, if you would like to hold out here, no hard feelings.

Hi Dustin, I think I can agree on that price. Time frame wise, I think I would go to the Microsoft store tomorrow evening, update the listing once I'm done, and then ship it out on Tuesday if that's okay with you?

- Jun 30, 2019 - 05:18 PM

That sounds like a plan, you have a deal! I actually hope they'll replace it with a new one here if we're lucky. Thank you.

As long as you upload and update that information to verify it's good, we should be all set. I appreciate it.

Hey there, sorry for the delay here. I did have to think things over a little bit as I had a $500 unexpected auto repair today. That is a bummer they wouldn't let you exchange it but I do appreciate you trying.

If we could do $1,800 as is on the current one, I think I will take it if you could do me a favor and see how quickly they could ship it, possibly for Wednesday delivery. One positive note here is you were able to save the $50 replacement fee.

Hi Dustin, sorry to hear about the auto repair. I can do $1800 considering the replacement thing fell through, but I think the earliest I can ship the item out is Wednesday because I need to call the store tomorrow. When I went to the store they said that they could track Microsoft Complete using my email, but they couldn't find it on the device when they looked the serial number up. They said they would fix that for me, but it still hasn't updated according to the Microsoft site, so I want to make sure that is done to be fair considering it's a huge plus to be able to have accidental damage replacements before the warranty is up.

- Jul 01, 2019 - 10:16 PM

Thank you, I appreciate that. Yes that would be just fine because you're right that's a pretty big deal to make sure that's good to go and since they told you it's actually through December. Just let me know how it goes.

Well I'm okay with that haha. I do appreciate your efforts to get them to honor their warranty. I would like to have it by the weekend if possible but again if it's a new/referb replacement that is also a plus. Let me know how things go for the warranty or replacement process option!

Will do, my apologies for all these unknown factors. It makes no sense to me why Microsoft would rather have me turn in a broken device instead of a functioning one for the same fee...

- Jul 01, 2019 - 10:40 PM

It's okay I appreciate the updates and that's why I'm sticking with our deal. Honestly I didn't know how they operated either as that doesn't make much sense to me as well.

Alright, just got off the phone with Microsoft. So it appears that the store I went to can't apply the warranty again for some unknown reason, so I have to go through online support by providing my receipts. Am in the process of doing that now.

Hi Preston, I've been through a lot with Dustin and if he still is interested in the device then I feel obligated to go through with the transaction with him after I make sure this warranty thing is figured out. If this doesn't work out, I anticipate it would take about a week or two for me to get back to you if that is ok with you.

Another update on the warranty situation, I provided Microsoft online support with my receipts, and the agent I spoke with said it should be resolved in 24-72 hours, which would not affect my plan @Dustin.

- Jul 02, 2019 - 07:41 PM

Thank you for the update, and the above. I appreciate it. At least they are working with you instead of invalidating your claim to it, that makes me pretty hopeful it will be covered as you provided them with proof.

Of course :). Yeah, it definitely sounds like it should be resolved fairly smoothly. I will continue to give updates.

Jul 04, 2019 - 08:37 PM

Hi Dustin, it seems that I was a bit too optimistic in my previous post. Microsoft support told me that my receipts were missing a transaction. I called the store that I got the device from, and apparently back when they replaced my original SB2 (A) for me under the manufacturer warranty, they almost gave another SB2 (B) that had a dent in it, so they gave me a different one (C). The issue is that the store only registered the exchange from B to C (which is why Complete wasn't transferred), so there was no receipt that ties the extended warranty from A to C. They said that I should be able to get it resolved if I go back to that store in Boston (they said I would need me to come in because they can't ask for sensitive info through phone), but I will not be able to do that until the end of August.

Jul 04, 2019 - 08:38 PM

Going forward, I completely understand if you are no longer interested. On the other hand, if you want to continue with our original agreement (warranty until December) then we would have to wait until the end of August to go through with that. Otherwise if you would be fine with buying the device as it is now (warranty until Sep 15) we can also work out a lower price than we've discussed, especially since the device got 2 hairline scratches from my trip to the store (which I will upload a photo of, as well as battery report which I realize I should have included from looking at other posts).

Regardless of the outcome, I want to thank you for negotiating with me, and I am very sorry for not being able to deliver what I promised.

- Jul 05, 2019 - 04:14 PM

Hello, thank you for the updates you provided. I appreciate your time and effort to get Microsoft Complete back in order. That indeed made a difference on things but not terribly. I don't think I'd want to hold you up until August or have you drive back to Boston. That's pretty messed up they can't do you a better service really. I've been on the fence about it so maybe this is a way of just telling me to hold out for the Surface Book 3 which I expect to see in 3-6/mos area to refresh this current one. The machine I have now is about twice as powerful being the Lenovo Extreme X1, Core i7 H Series vs U Series, 512gb SSD, GTX 1050 with 32gbs of RAM.

I really want to thank you again though for trying and being a very honest and responsive seller. This one was out of your hands and on Microsoft in my opinion. I don't think you'll have any problems moving the unit here though.
Dustin

Once again, thank you very much for working with me. As a seller that is more experienced than me, would you advise me to create a new listing for my device or continue to try using this one?

- Jul 05, 2019 - 04:36 PM

You're very welcome, sorry we couldn't make this one work out. Honestly I would use this listing because it should show to anyone willing to read how open and honest you have been. Maybe change the price just slightly to show a difference in the listing appearance and go from there.

Thanks for reading Daniel haha. I now agree that you should probably create a new listing from this one still being here for a couple of days. It's a really good deal so someone needs to buy it soon before I impulse buy:)
