Apple announced the 10th generation iPad on October 18, 2022. This iPad began shipping on October 26, 2022, and it arrived with a new design, new colors, new features, a new accessory, and iPadOS 16. The display is larger, at 10.9”, and the new features include an Apple A14 Bionic chip, USB-C, 5G, Touch ID in the power button, a 12MP wide-angle rear camera, a landscape-oriented ultra-wide front camera, and support for the new Apple Magic Keyboard Folio.
The 9th generation Apple iPad was released in September 2021. This iPad has a 10.2” Retina display with True Tone and while the official name is the 9th generation iPad, it is also referred to as the iPad (2021). This model iPad is powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic chip with Neural Engine and offers options for 64GB or 256GB of internal storage space. Some of the other key features of the 9th generation iPad include a 12MP ultra-wide front camera with Center Stage, an 8MP wide rear camera, a Lightning connector for charging, and Touch ID for device security. This model iPad is available in Silver or Space Gray and supports the 1st generation Apple Pencil and Apple Smart Keyboard.
Apple introduced the 8th generation iPad in September 2020. The 8th generation iPad is powered by the Apple A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine. This upgraded chip provided a notable performance boost coming from the Apple A10 Fusion chip that powered the previous-generation iPad. Other key features of the 8th generation iPad include a 10.2” Retina display with a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating and resolution of 2160 x 1620, options for 32GB or 128GB of internal storage space, a 1.2MP FaceTime HD camera on the front, and an 8MP wide camera with an f/2.4 aperture and HDR for photos on the back. This model arrived with iOS 14 and support for the 1st generation Apple Pencil and Apple Smart Keyboard.
The seventh-generation iPad was announced and released in September 2019. This model was released with iPad OS 13.3 and with the Apple A10 chip and Apple M10 motion coprocessor. The iPad has options for 32GB or 128GB of internal storage space and saw a marked change in the display size. The seventh-generation iPad arrived with a 10.2-inch display with a resolution of 2160 x 1620. Other features included an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, a Lightning connector for charging, support for the first-generation Apple Pencil and Touch ID for device security.
Apple announced and released the sixth-generation iPad in March 2018. This model of the iPad kept the same 9.7-inch display size, along with many of the features found in the previous-generation iPad. This model launched with iOS 11.3, had options for 32GB or 128GB of storage space, and was available in a WiFi-only and a WiFi + Cellular model. Other features on this model included the Apple A10 chip, Apple M10 motion coprocessor, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, an 8MP rear-facing camera, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, a Lightning connector for charging and Touch ID for device security. Apple also added support for the Apple Pencil on the sixth-generation iPad.
Apple introduced the 4th generation iPad Pro 11” (2022) on October 18, 2022. This model began shipping on October 26, 2022. The iPad Pro 11” 4th gen (2022) arrived with iPadOS 16 and new features included an Apple M2 chip, Apple Pencil hover, ProRes video recording up to 4K at 30 frames per second, and WiFi 6E.
