How to Add Basic Formatting on Swappa Forums

Most forum posts are short and simple, but a bit of formatting can't hurt from time to time. Swappa Forums use a simplified form of Markdown language for post formatting.

Here's a quick guide on how to add basic formatting on the Swappa Forums:

Basic Text Formatting

• Italics: To italicize text, add one asterisk (*) before and after a word or phrase -- *Italicized text*
• Bold: To bold text, add two asterisks (**) before and after a word or phrase -- **Bold Text**
• Bold and Italics: To add bold and italics at the same time, add three asterisks (***) before and after a word or phrase -- ***Bolded and Italicized text***

Links

Links are reviewed by staff, and they should only be used sparingly. However, if you'd like to add a link to your post, you have two options:

1. You can paste in any URL into the text box, and it will display as a link: https://swappa.com/
2. If you'd like to add link text (ex: Swappa), you can do so as follows: [Text](URL)

Lists

Creating lists is easy. First, you have to decide whether you want an ordered list (1, 2, 3...) or an unordered list (bullet points)

Unordered Lists:

• Unordered lists are lists where list items are separated by bullet points
• This is an example of an unordered list
• To create an unordered list, add a dash (-) before each line item
• You can do this for as many items as you wish

Ordered Lists:

1. Ordered lists are lists where items are separated by numbers (1, 2, 3…)
2. This is an example of an ordered list
3. To create an ordered list, add a number and period before each line item: 1. List text
4. You can use whichever numbers you'd like, but the first number always has to be 1.
