What does the R stand for in iPhone XR?
The X in iPhone XR stands for ten, and although the R doesn’t have an exact meaning, it does have some significance.
Right after Apple released the iPhone XR, Apple’s Phil Schiller stated (in an interview with Engadget) that he loves cars and things that go fast, and that "R and S are both letters used to denote sports cars that are really extra special."
Do you believe that explanation? What do you think the R in XR stands for?
R and S is with cars means "Racing" and "Sport" respectively. But with Apple's naming scheme, R and S means "Refined" and "Supreme" respectively. By keeping the full names internal and only using the initials, it doesn't make the consumer immediately feel like they're buying a lesser device.
