Why Isn’t My Swappa Listing Selling? 7 Fixes

Published Oct 26, 2026 • By James Bradley in Buying & Selling Guides

Your listing is approved and live, but days go by and nobody buys. Almost always, the cause is one of a short list of fixable problems, and price is usually first. This guide walks through seven fixes in the order they tend to matter, using real Swappa sale data so you can tell which one applies to you.

Quick Answer

A Swappa listing that is not selling is usually priced above what buyers recently paid. Compare your listing price with the average sale price for your exact model and storage on Swappa’s price page, not with other asking prices. Then check your photos, answer every buyer comment within a few hours, and extend the listing before its 10-day expiry. If your model has hundreds of competing listings and you need the money fast, a trade-in quote may be the quicker exit.

Look Up Your Model’s Price

Listing is free. Sellers pay 3% plus payment processing when it sells.

Fix 1: Check Your Price Against Recent Sales

Most stalled listings are overpriced, often by less than the seller thinks. The trap is anchoring on other listings. Asking prices are what sellers hope for; sale prices are what buyers actually paid.

Every model’s page on Swappa’s price guide shows both. Scroll to the storage table and compare two columns: Avg list price and Avg sale price. The headline “Average price” at the top of the page is not the sale average, so do not price from it. On October 15, 2026, the gap looked like this:

Model and storageAvg list priceAvg sale priceGap
iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB$651$577$74
iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB$824$748$76
iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB$517$441$76

If you priced your listing to match the asking average, you are competing with the listings that have not sold either. Prices vary by condition, carrier and storage, and they move daily, so check your exact configuration on the day you list or edit.

Remember what the buyer sees. Your Ask Price is what you set, and the Listing Price shown to buyers adds Swappa’s 3% buyer fee, so a $100 Ask Price shows as $103. Compare that buyer-facing number with recent sales. Then decide how fast you want to sell:

  • Fast sale: set the listing price at or slightly below the average sale price for your condition.
  • Top dollar: price a little above it only if your device is clearly nicer than most, such as Mint condition with the box and accessories.

Fix 2: Improve Your Photos and Description

Once the price is close to market, photos decide which listing a buyer opens. A listing with a few dim shots loses to one that shows every side of the device in daylight, with the screen on.

Check yours against this list:

  • Every side, plus the corners and the camera glass, where wear shows first
  • The screen powered on, on a plain white or gray background, so buyers can see it is clear
  • Any marks you mention in the description, photographed up close
  • What is included, such as the charger, case or original box

Then read your description as a buyer would. It should answer the questions people ask most: exact model and storage, unlocked or carrier, battery behavior, any marks, and what is in the box. Grade the condition honestly, because a listing that looks better than the device invites a return. Fix 3: Answer Questions and Offers Fast

On Swappa, buyers ask questions and make offers in the public comments on your listing. Each comment is a buyer who is close to buying. Swappa tells buyers to allow up to 24 hours for a standard seller to reply, but most buyers do not wait that long. They move to the next listing.

Reply within a few hours. Answer the question directly, and if a photo would answer it better, upload one to the listing.

Offers work a specific way. If you accept a lower price, say so in the comments and then edit your listing price. Swappa is first come, first served: you cannot hold a listing for one buyer, so anyone can buy at the new price once you change it. A buyer who subscribes to your listing’s comments gets an email when you reply, so a quick “I’ve lowered it to $X” often closes the sale. For when to counter and when to hold, see How to Handle Lowball Offers When Selling Tech.

Red flag: Ignore any comment asking you to meet locally before purchase, ship to a different address, or continue the conversation by text or email. Real buyers check out on Swappa.

Fix 4: Extend Before Your Listing Expires

A Swappa listing expires 10 days after it is created. Before it expires, go to the listing page and click the green Extend Listing button to add 7 more days. A standard listing can stay up for a maximum of 60 days in total.

Two habits help here:

  • Re-check your price every time you extend. If the listing has gone 10 days without a sale, the market is telling you something. Compare it with the latest sale average before you click Extend.
  • Do not let it lapse by accident. After a listing fully expires, relisting means a new listing with an updated description and new verification photos, which goes back through review.

Canceling a listing carries no penalty, so if you want a clean restart with better photos and a new price, you can cancel and create a fresh listing. How to Create a Swappa Listing, Step by Step covers the listing form.

Fix 5: Featured Listings and When They Help

A featured listing is an optional paid placement. It costs $5 per listing, adds an orange star next to your listing, and moves it to the top of the category page. Featured listings are sorted among themselves by price. The payment is non-refundable, though Swappa staff can transfer it to a relisted copy of the same product, for example after the original expires.

Whether it is worth $5 is your call, and the answer depends on price:

Your situationWhat featuring does
Priced at or below recent salesPuts a competitive listing in front of more buyers sooner
Priced well above recent salesShows it near the top, but buyers still compare price and pass
Many featured listings for your modelFeatured listings sort by price, so a high price lands low in that group

Featuring adds visibility; it does not change what buyers will pay. Fix the price first, then decide whether the extra placement is worth it for your model.

Fix 6: Price for a Crowded Market

Some models simply have more sellers than buyers on a given day. When dozens or hundreds of near-identical listings sit on the same page, the cheapest good-condition listings sell first, and everything priced above recent sales waits.

These popular iPhones had the most competition on October 15, 2026:

Model and storageUnlocked listingsAvg sale price
iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB169$577
iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB159$748
iPhone 16 Pro 128GB113$648
iPhone 11 64GB87$137
iPhone SE (2nd gen) 64GB73$83
iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB68$441

Listing counts are unlocked units in that storage size; sale averages cover all carriers for that storage. Both change daily, so check Swappa prices for your exact model.

If you are selling one of these, the only lever that reliably works is price. Set your listing price at or just under the average sale price for your condition, and make sure your photos are as good as the best listing on the page. A small premium for Mint condition or the original box is reasonable; a premium for “I paid more for it” is not. The Best Time to Sell Electronics explains why prices on popular models soften after new launches.

Fix 7: When Trade-In Is the Faster Exit

Selling yourself almost always pays more, but it is not always faster. If your model is crowded and you need the money this week, compare the trade-in quote with what you would keep after fees.

On October 15, 2026, Swappa Trade-In quotes for unlocked phones were well below average sale prices:

Model and storageAvg sale priceUnlocked trade-in quote
iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB$577$390
iPhone 16 Pro 128GB$648$399
iPhone 11 64GB$137$63

Selling also costs Swappa’s 3% seller fee plus PayPal processing (3.49% plus $0.49), so the real gap is a little smaller than the table shows, but it is still large. Trade-in makes sense when speed matters more than the difference. Partners send a free prepaid label, many lock a quote for a set window (commonly 14 days), and most trade-ins take one to two weeks from quote to payment.

Trade-in is also the right route for a device that cannot be listed at all. A cracked, water-damaged or dead device fails Swappa’s listing criteria, and many trade-in partners buy those. Trade In or Sell Your Phone: Which Gets You More Money? compares the two in more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Swappa listing last?

A Swappa listing expires 10 days after it is created. Before it expires, click Extend Listing on the listing page to add 7 more days. A standard listing can stay up for a maximum of 60 days, and relisting after that needs an updated description and new verification photos.

Is a Swappa featured listing worth it?

It depends on your price. A featured listing costs $5, adds an orange star and moves the listing to the top of the category page, but featured listings are sorted by price and buyers still compare. It helps a fairly priced listing get seen sooner; it does not rescue an overpriced one.

How do I lower my price on Swappa?

Edit your listing and change the Ask Price. If a buyer made an offer in the comments, reply there to say you have lowered it. Swappa is first come, first served, so anyone can buy at the new price once you change it.

What price should I list my phone at on Swappa?

Start from the average sale price for your exact model, storage and carrier on Swappa’s price page, not the asking average. For a fast sale, set your listing price at or slightly below that sale average. Prices change daily, so check on the day you list.

Why are there so many listings for my phone?

Popular models like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro Max had well over 100 unlocked listings each on October 15, 2026. When supply is that high, buyers pick the best-priced listings first, so pricing at the recent sale average matters more than anything else.

Get Your Listing Moving

Start with price, because it fixes more stalled listings than anything else: compare your listing price with the average sale price for your model, then sharpen the photos, answer comments within hours, and extend before day 10.
