As part of Swappa’s listing criteria requirements, all devices listed for sale need to be ready for the buyer. Essentially, in the case of Apple AirPods, this means they should be reset and unpaired from your device. How to reset AirPods?
You can reset your AirPods or AirPods Pro using your iPhone or iPad.
- Place your AirPods in the charging case, close the lid, and leave the lid closed for 30 seconds.
- Open the lid on your AirPods charging case, and then navigate to Settings -> Bluetooth on your iPhone or iPad and tap “Forget This Device” to unpair the AirPods.
- Keep the lid open on your AirPods charging case, then press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case. Hold the button for approximately 15 seconds (until the light on the front flashes amber then white.
From this point forward, your buyer will then be able to place the AirPods charging case near their iPhone (with the lid open) and follow the prompts to pair the AirPods or AirPods Pro.
How to clean AirPods?
Apple recommends using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean your AirPods or AirPods Pro. The microphone and speaker meshes can be cleaned with a dry cotton swab. Disinfectants such as Clorox wipes or 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes can be used on the exterior surface, but make sure not to get any liquid in the openings.
Similarly, Apple recommends using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean your AirPod case. Clorox wipes or 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes can also be used provided they are damp and you take care to avoid getting any liquid in the openings.
You can use a (clean and dry) soft-bristled brush to remove debris from the Lightning connector on your AirPods case, but you should avoid sticking anything in the charging port to prevent damage.

Why won’t my AirPods connect?

Apple makes it simple to pair AirPods with Apple devices, but AirPods use Bluetooth to connect so they can be connected with a variety of devices, such as a Chromebook. You can connect AirPods to Chromebook using the following steps:
- Open the settings app on your Chromebook
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled
- Press and hold the setup button on your AirPods charging case until the light on the front flashes white
- Select your AirPods from the Bluetooth Available Devices list on your Chromebook
How to connect AirPods to laptop?
Apple AirPods can be used with a non-Apple device, such as a Windows laptop.
- Place your AirPods in the charging case and open the lid
- Press and hold the setup button on your AirPods charging case until the status light on the front flashes white
- Select your AirPods from the list of Bluetooth devices on your laptop

Apple AirPods: Tips and Tricks
Apple AirPods are generally pretty easy to use, but there are a few common questions that seem to arise – dealing with whether AirPods are waterproof, how to check the battery status, and how to raise the volume.
Are AirPods waterproof?
Apple AirPods are not waterproof, however, some Apple AirPods are water-resistant.
- First and second-generation AirPods are not waterproof or water-resistant.
- Third-generation Apple AirPods and first and second-generation Apple AirPods Pro are water-resistant with an IPX4 rating.
The IPX4 rating means AirPods can handle splashes of water, some light rain, or sweat. If your AirPods get wet, they should be dried with a soft cloth before being placed back in the charging case.

You can check AirPods battery status using your iPhone or iPad. Make sure your iPhone or iPad is unlocked, open the lid on your charging case, wait a few seconds, and the volume levels will be shown in a graphic. The details will include the current battery level for each AirPod and the AirPods charging case.
How to make AirPods louder?
The quickest way to increase the volume on your AirPods is to use the volume controls on your iPhone or iPad. You can also use the volume controls in the app you are using, use the volume control on your Apple Watch, or ask Siri to turn up the volume by saying “Hey Siri, turn volume up.”
