The 1st generation iPhone SE was released in 2016, and the 2nd generation iPhone SE was released in 2020. Apple iPhone SE 2022 features
The 3rd generation iPhone SE is arriving two years after the release of the 2nd generation iPhone SE. The look of the phone remains the same, which is great because it is still a small iPhone with a home button. But while things look the same on the exterior – there are some key improvements under the hood.
- 5G connectivity: Previous generations of the iPhone SE were limited to LTE, but this latest iPhone SE features 5G, specifically sub-6 GHz (in addition to LTE Advanced).
- Improved durability: The iPhone SE 2022 features an aerospace-grade aluminum and glass design, and Apple has made it clear this is the same glass as the iPhone 13. The phone also has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
- Apple A15 Bionic chip: The original iPhone SE has an A9 chip, the 2nd generation iPhone SE is powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, and this latest iPhone SE is powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic chip with 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. For those keeping track, the A15 Bionic is what powers the iPhone 13.
In addition, and as a result of the A15 Bionic chip – you can also expect better battery life and camera-related improvements.
- Battery life: Apple says the iPhone SE 2022 will offer up to 15 hours of video playback and up to 50 hours of audio playback. The iPhone SE supports Qi wireless charging and can also be charged via Lightning cable. The phone is also fast-charge capable and can get a 50% charge in 30 minutes using an Apple 20W power adapter.
- Camera improvements: The camera hardware is the same as the previous generation iPhone SE, with a single 12MP wide camera on the back and a 7MP FaceTime HD camera on the front. But the camera features have been improved. The iPhone SE 2022 gains Deep Fusion, Photographic Styles, and Smart HDR 4 for photos on the front and rear-facing cameras. The front camera also picked up slo-mo video support for 1080p at 120 frames per second.
