Want to get this for my father for his first smartphone. What is different with it being jail broken and not. Will it make a difference for a first time iPhone/smartphone user.

Hey Joseph. I'm happy to upgrade the software to the most recent version and remove the jailbreak. Jailbroken means that you are able to install software from vendors other then Apple. The main purpose is customization. If it's his first smartphone it would be best for me to upgrade it and thus remove the jailbreak.

How do you think it will work on 8.1.1? I live 1200 miles away so I can not really help on other things.

8.1.1 should work fine. Apple has approved iOS 8 for the iPhone 4S. No problems!

Unfortunately Swappa advises that seller's only ship to the PayPal confirmed address as otherwise all seller protection is void. I will need to adhere to that...

I might recommend you comment here and tick the box "Swappa Staff, I need help!" and someone can come by and see if there is a way to change it.

I use paypal for everything. The 4848 is my confirmed but when I moved it keeps my old address in their and there is no way to remove it. I talked to paypal long time ago about it. It only happens on transactions like this not through ebay and tons of others I use it for

PayPal policy requires the seller ship to the address attached to the PayPal payment to be eligible for seller protections. So Swappa can only recommend the seller ship to that address.

PayPal does not allow the address to be changed (or confirmed) after a payment is sent. So if the address you provided at the time of payment is incorrect (or not confirmed) you will have to re-submit payment to the seller to make changes.
