Which are the benefits of a custom ROM versus stock?.

One of the great things about Nexus devices is that Google allows you to unlock the bootloader. this allows you to flash custom ROMs very easily. The benefits of custom ROMs really depend on which rom you flash. most ROMs increase performance increase battery life and add advanced customization features. CyanogenMod is probably the most well-known custom ROM. if you are interestedin learning more about custom roms I would be happy to help. XDA Developers is a great resource. If you prefer I can return it to complete stock.

Is it CyanogenMod the custom ROM you have?.

I have a nexus 5 and I flash a new rom almost every month. I just like to try new things. I have used CyanogenMod and really like it but right now it is still in beta for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. I didn't notice any bugs but beta ROMs can potentially have bugs. CyanogenMod will eventually release a stable version for the Nexus 7 but it may be a few more months. I would recommend you stick with a stable rom since you are new to custom roms. flashing a new ROM is very easy and you can even even flash stock roms but if you want to return to complete stock that is a little harder but there are plenty of tutorials out there. I can link you a tutorial if you want. I can give u my e-mail address as well if you need help

I can find you a ROM that is very close to stock with a few performance improvements and customizations. that would be a good place to start I can flash it for ya
