I am helping a friend buy a phone. I have AT&T, so I know those support GSM. My friend has Verison. It looks like in your picture there is the sim slot. My friend wants to be able to use the phone overseas by buying a local sim card when he travels. Will a verison iphone 4S work overseas with a local carrier's sim card?

I don't believe the phone is unlocked. I can only guarantee the phone works on Verizon. I do however have a iPhone 5 in black 64gb listed that is unlocked for any carrier. If you would like the link I can list it.
My question is whether I can use the phone when I am overseas - if I can put a SIM card into it.
