If you're on the fence, I suggest you play with the phone at one of the carrier stores to get a better feel for the size and software. It really is a well designed piece of hardware. I'd prefer not to return unless the phone is damaged in shipping or somehow misrepresented in the listing. This is for the 1st gen 2013 model.

How long was this phone in use? How is the battery life?

I've had the phone for a little over 6 months. It was purchased through moto maker this past march. I'm actually upgrading to the 2014 moto x which is the reason I'm selling. I personally don't have an issue with the battery lasting all day on auto brightness. It very much depends on what apps you use though. Today it's been off the charger for 13 hours and I have about 35% left.

do you get lte service with the XT1053?

Pretty sure it's capable of LTE but I don't get it in my area

Are you familiar with the common defect of the front camera being covered by a ring that falls down in front of it? Has that happened to this phone?

Yes, it has but like many others have reported, it doesn't seem to affect the picture.
