Go to the apple support page, Check warranty information. It will ask you to type in the serial number. It either will tell you, warranty left, if the phone was activated and/or it's still eligible for Apple care. If nothing shows, just a message like "Can't find serial number or something", It means the phone was not activated, which is good. Leave it like that. Whoever buys the phone, the moment they use and activate the phone, the warranty starts and they can buy the Apple care right at the moment or I believe 60 days after activation.

Hi Bart S. - thanks for the info on AppleCare. I can confirm that the phone has never been activated and should still be eligible for AppleCare. Also, sorry the only color I have is Blue.
