Can you install other applications? i had surface RT and it was so annoying. couldn't even install chrome browser.

Yes, it is running the standard version of window home 10
The RT was a different machine and would not run any standard windows apps.
This version 3 and up , run std Windows, so Yes. And I have done the updates of software and firmware, to date.
And the surface pencil, not included, will also run on this model.
