Security patch level: October 5, 2017

Google isn't providing anymore updates for Nexus 6 phones: no software updates after 10/2016, and no security updates after 10/2017.

If you need a different version than 7.1.1 it might be possible to manually load it on yourself, but I'd recommend doing some research in advance to see how easy it is to do or how buggy the result might be.
