In order to cut costs, the new iPad is both thicker and heavier, and has an air gap between the display and the glass, which the iPad Air 2 does not. The new iPad also lacks the more expensive anti-reflective screen coating which makes the iPad Air 2 great for outdoor viewing. To try and counteract that, Apple has increased the display brightness on the new model, which may help to alleviate the reflection issues in some conditions, but will never match the highly esteemed coating on the iPad Air 2.
The new iPad is in a lower price range because Apple is trying to separate the iPad and the iPad Pro lines. If you are looking for a budget iPad, the new model might suit you better than this superior product.
