There are 3 versions of the PlayStation 4: the original PlayStation 4, the new slim PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Sony has seen fit to phase out the original PlayStation 4 in favor of the new slim model. In doing so, they simply identify the slim PlayStation 4 as the "PlayStation 4" on the packaging. This page will help you distinguish between the original PlayStation 4 and the slim PlayStation 4.


PlayStation 4 Pro

This PlayStation is easy to identify as it is larger than the other two units and the packaging identifies it as such.

PlayStation 4 (Old)

This device is smaller than the PlayStation 4 Pro but larger than the new slim PlayStation 4. It's easiest to identify features are proper right angle corners at all 8 corners of the device. It has a notable line approximately 1/3 of the way down its body which contains both the power and eject buttons on its front face and an LED light bar on the top of the device.

The original PlayStation 4 has CUH-1001A, CUH-1115A and CUH-1215A: On the box

Serial number: The serial number is 11 characters long. It begins with the letters "MB" and ends with 9 numbers and is located below the barcode on the bottom of the box. In the example to the right, the serial number is in the yellow box and is MBXXXXXXXXX

PlayStation 4 Slim (New)

The PlayStation 4, often identified as the slim model on most websites but not on any of its packaging, is the smallest of the PlayStation 4s. Its easiest to identify feature is its rounded corners on all 8 corners of the device. The device has physical power and eject buttons located on the left-hand side of the device.

The slim PlayStation 4 has CUH-2015A: On the box

Serial number: The serial number is 11 characters long. It begins with the letters "MC" and ends with 9 numbers and is located below the barcode on a side of the box. In the example below, the serial number is in the yellow box and is MC777777777.
