When it fails, the troubleshooting path isn\u2019t obvious because there are multiple places things can go wrong: your carrier plan, iOS settings, the connecting device, or just a software glitch that a restart will fix. Here\u2019s how to work through each one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, Check Your Carrier Plan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Personal Hotspot isn\u2019t available on every cellular plan. Some carriers require a separate hotspot add-on, some cap the data you can share, and a handful of budget plans disable it entirely. Before you start troubleshooting the phone itself, it\u2019s worth confirming that your plan actually includes it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Log into your carrier\u2019s app or website and check your plan details. Look for terms like \u201cMobile Hotspot,\u201d \u201cData Sharing,\u201d or \u201cTethering.\u201d If hotspot isn\u2019t listed, that\u2019s your answer \u2014 you\u2019ll need to upgrade your plan or add it on. If you\u2019ve confirmed your plan includes hotspot, reset network settings, restarted both devices, and tried USB, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth \u2014 and it still won\u2019t work \u2014 it\u2019s time to contact your carrier directly. Hotspot restrictions can sometimes be applied at the account level by the carrier rather than the phone, and a carrier rep can often flip a switch on their end that no amount of iPhone troubleshooting will fix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
