Generally speaking, if a phone's ESN is clean but it's not unlocked, does that mean I have to be on a post-paid plan with T-Mobile in order to use it? Or can I just pop in my pre-paid T-Mobile SIM? Thanks.

Thats still too high. I could get a brand new S5 from tmobile for $509.00. I think $475 is fair but ultimately its up to you. Let me know what you are thinking.
This is Brand New and you do not have to pay tax on it so you are getting it cheaper than TMobile is selling it for.
