Is the tablet protected by another part to the case when it's not sitting on the keyboard part? Thinking about kids using it for writing papers. What brand is the case? Maybe I could find it on the internet and see how it works.

Yes, the keyboard snaps on to the tablet. I am not sure if this is the exact one, but is very similar
