Can custom recovery and ROM be reverted back to original operating system? I'm thinking about this for my 10 year old and I don't want him to mess around with anything that is rooted and possibly brick the device

Hi, no it is difficult to get to custom recovery on this tablet. This ROM is actually pretty stable and perform much better than official factory.
