Hi Mike pardon my ignorance. What is S-off? Do you know is it running Kit Kat 4.4? I'm trying to find phone w/o Lollipop. Can I use Verizon SIM card from old phone? Thanks for your reply.

The reason some people like to have a phone S-0ff, which is security off so that unwritable partitions of the phone may be modified. This is done in order to install a custom recovery on the phone in order to go
backwards and forwards in software revisions or install one of many available custom roms or go to other carriers. There is a huge community of folks who enjoy revising what they see and use and how the phone acts. My main interest is better battery life and seeing only the apps I use. And that's usually not possible with Verizon phones because they ask their phones vendors to lock them down.

It's running 4.43

Yes, if the sim is for sure 4G-LTE and the same exact size, you can switch just by power off,
putting SIM in phone, and powering up. Can be done repeatedly. Verizon company stores
will give you one for free if you go in.

I have an HTC one when I updated to lollipop, can no longer use FoxFi. Have to change devise to work around. Not sure about the significance of S-off for me. I use it a lot for reference @ work. Live on the road so Hotspot is important.
I'll buy the phone in a minute if it works as intended.

No, you don't need to buy a new phone.
You could purchase Sunshine S-0ff for $25.00 from the reputable vendor found in google search then go backwards to the software you like. It'll take some reading and fiddling. But you can do it if you want a fun challenge. Most custom roms have built-in WiFi tether which I use and appreciate almost daily.

But if you want it done without fuss and muss, my phone would run your tether app
just fine, as its 443

May 26, 2015 - 12:06 AM

As much as I can appreciate a fun challenge, I'm heading off for a 3 month vacation the end of the week. No fuss or miss is looking pretty good.
I'm going to check out the Sunshine S off though. Thanks.

I just checked at that xda-developers site, and No, Sunshine won't work for those who have taken Lollipop.
Sorry to get your hopes up.
